Here is another MIX IT UP post!
Above is my favorite jacket from Urban Outfitters. I love the 3/4 sleeve length because it gives you many options to layer with it. Easily change out the long sleeve under it to another color or change the color/ way you tie the scarf to get a new look. When looking for winter jackets, look for ones that can easily be layered so you can wear them in the fall, winter AND spring. Also, the more neutral the color = the easier it is to accessorize it.
PS - Make sure to check out my MIX IT UP series which shows you how to “re-invent” your closet!
Jacket - $19.99 (Urban Outfitters)
Scarf 1 - $1 (H&M, blue)
Purple Tank Top - $3.99 (Gap Outlet)
Scarf 2 - $1 (Old Navy, pink)
Grey Long Sleeve - $2.97 (Gap)

Here’s another MIX IT UP! post =)
Here are three fun combination with the same flyaway cardigan. The great thing about these are that they can go with just about anything, jeans, skirt, dress, shorts… you get the idea ;) Another fun thing about them is that they don’t button shut giving you an opportunity to wear it open or “close” it with a waist belt. I definitely suggest you have one of these on hand to throw on during the fall!
Flyaway Cardigan - $7.49 (PacSun)

s3xnoise asked: ok so, i go to a school where pretty much the only thing you can get away with wearing is abercrombie tees and skinny jeans. how can i work trendier things into my wardrobe without looking too out of place?

The best thing to do is add a “trendier piece” one at a time to your outfit. The great thing about Abercrombie, Hollister, American Eagle, etc. is that they have so many fun basics to wear (plain tanks, tees, etc.)! Accessorizing is a great way of breaking the mold without looking out of place.

After:

Here is a little “western” twist on wearing Hollister/ A&F tee and jeans.

I’d suggest wearing non-destroyed, DARK denim and a pair of boots. If you don’t have boots, then I would wear flats or laceless sneakers, just no rubber flip flops! Rather than investing in a whole new wardrobe, take the basics from your A&F wardrobe and rock them with new accessories. Hope this helps!

Mix it Up! - #1

Welcome to Collegiate Fashion’s first MIX IT UP! post =) It’s a series of how to pair older pieces of one’s wardrobe with newer items to give them new life!

Working at Hollister during High School and the first few years of college has left me with a TON of these flowing tank tops. Rather than toss or donate them, I am finding different ways of updating them for my college life style.

  • Tip: Adding a cardigan to a tank top instantly gives it a new look. I’m wearing this outfit to work today!

Tank Tops - $6.90 (Hollister Co. - White), $3 (Papaya - Yellow)

Flyaway Cardigan - $26 w/ tax (Michael Kors Outlet, On clearance for $39.99 minus 40% off of clearance items)

Jeans - $7.99 (New York and Co. - I forgot to use my 10% off military discount =( )

Earrings -$17.99 (Juicy Couture Retail Store - On Clearance for $23.99 - 40% off of clearance) - EXACT MATCH HERE

Boots - $14.99 (Ross)

Nail Polish - FREE (CVS - Revlon, Tropical Temptation)

  • I’ll post another day about how you can score FREE products after their extra bucks program!

Total - Approximately $64 (Splurge - Michael Kors Cardigan, Best Deal - Juicy Couture Earrings, originally $48, the day I bought them, they were still full price at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, etc.!)
